Play Along® Brings Back the Original Good Luck Trolls to the Next Lucky Generation

Deerfield Beach, FL – February 12, 2006 – The classic Trolls, those so-ugly-they’re cute icons of good luck, are back! Thanks to JAKKS Pacific Inc.’s (Nasdaq: JAKK) Play Along division, the whimsical characters are about to be raised to pop culture icon status yet again. DIC Entertainment, the worldwide licensing agent for Trolls, granted Play Along the rights to produce and market the classic figurines, which will be presented at the 2006 American International Toy Fair.

Trolls have a history as colorful as their wild hair - from their unassuming beginnings in Scandinavian folklore to their celebrity-like status in the 1960’s to their successful resurgence in the 1990’s. Always remaining true to their fun-loving attitude and colorful hair, Trolls have provided light-hearted entertainment to every generation they’ve touched.

Dating back to Scandinavian legend, Trolls were thought of as evil, ugly creatures that lived under bridges. In the 1950’s, a Danish woodcarver named Thomas Dam changed that perception when he carved an adorable Troll for his daughter on her birthday. Not only did she love it, but the town did as well, and a local toy merchant quickly placed an order with Dam, thus beginning the craze.  When Trolls came to the US in the 1960’s, they were an instant hit. The brand has already sold over five billion dollars at retail.

Play Along is the only company licensed to manufacture and market the original Dam Trolls. The company is launching a comprehensive yet untraditional marketing campaign, which includes a number of grassroots initiatives, product placement, film contests and more.

The latest Trolls stay true to the original - they still have that legendary hairstyle and come in a variety of endearing facial expressions. The new line includes some themed Trolls, such as a Biker, a Nurse and a Golfer. Also in the line are Good Luck Message Trolls, who carry a special pouch with a lucky message inside. Available in a rainbow of colors and sizes (5” figures, 3” figures, 2” clip ons and 1.5” toppers), there’s a Troll to fit everyone’s personality or mood.
